Couples & Relationship Counseling
Feel like a team again.
Every relationship goes through hard seasons. Maybe the same arguments keep coming back. Maybe you feel more like roommates than partners, or trust has been shaken and you’re not sure how to rebuild it. Couples therapy gives you a dedicated space to slow down, understand what’s really happening between you, and learn new ways of connecting.
You don’t have to be in crisis to benefit. Many couples come in to strengthen a good relationship, prepare for a big transition, or get unstuck before small problems grow.
What we can work on together
Communication breakdowns and recurring conflict
Rebuilding trust after betrayal or infidelity
Emotional distance and loss of intimacy
Navigating major life changes (a new baby, a move, career shifts, blended families)
Differences in values, parenting, or household responsibilities
How past trauma or anxiety shows up in the relationship
Deciding whether, and how, to move forward together
My approach
The Gottman Method
The Gottman Method is built on decades of research into what makes relationships thrive and what predicts their breakdown. We’ll look at patterns like criticism, defensiveness, contempt, and stonewalling, and replace them with practical tools: softer ways to raise concerns, repairing after conflict, and building friendship, appreciation, and shared meaning. It’s structured, practical, and focused on skills you can use at home right away.
DBT Skills for Couples
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) offers concrete skills for moments when emotions run high. Together we’ll practice calming your nervous system during conflict, validating each other even when you disagree, and asking for what you need clearly and respectfully. DBT is especially helpful when arguments escalate quickly or when one or both partners feel overwhelmed by strong emotions.
Trauma-Informed Care
Our histories come with us into our relationships. A trauma-informed approach means we move at a pace that feels safe for both of you, recognize how past experiences can shape present-day reactions, and approach each partner with compassion rather than blame. You’ll always have choice and a voice in how we work together.
What to expect
Sessions are 50 minutes and held via secure telehealth, so you can join from home, or even from separate locations if needed. In our early sessions, we’ll get to know your relationship’s story, strengths, and challenges, and set goals together.
